Smart Monitoring for Refrigerated Transport

Context

Kotra is a transport company specialized in temperature-controlled transport (chilled and frozen goods). Every day, around 300 trucks are on the road, distributing refrigerated products for their clients across Europe. In this sector, service quality is critical. Correct temperatures must be maintained in different sections of the trailers throughout transport, and proper reporting is required upon delivery.

Kotra already had a fleet equipped with the latest technology. On one hand, they could monitor transports along their routes to optimize planning, and on the other, they had continuous visibility into the conditions inside the trailers.

However, what was missing was an integrated view of both systems. Planning teams had no visibility into the cooling conditions. While Kotra already used two strong systems, they were looking for an integration that would allow information to flow correctly and trigger notifications to the right people at the right time in case of issues.

What did we achieve?

We developed an API orchestrator for Kotra that enables smart communication between their two existing systems (Carrier (Lynx) and Webfleet). Temperature data is continuously collected from Carrier and forwarded to Webfleet, enriching the fleet management platform with real-time cooling data.

After meeting the core need, the orchestrator was extended with a smart algorithm capable of detecting patterns in the cooling data. Based on these patterns, planners are informed about potential issues and their likely causes, allowing them to take immediate action.

In addition, historical logs of issues are maintained, creating a reporting layer that highlights recurring errors, identifies affected trailers, and shows under which conditions problems occur.
